Our Approach to Health & Fitness

We want you to realise that your body (the one you have right now!) is truly awesome and that you are capable of achieving anything you put your mind to.

We are tired of a fitness industry that focuses predominantly on image and aesthetics, promoting dieting & restriction, and which profits from making you believe that your body just doesn’t look good enough. Bodies come in all shapes & sizes and having six-pack abs and being shredded is not necessarily a sign of health.

What do we consider healthy?

- Having a body that is strong & mobile
- Moving about your daily life pain free
- Being able to run and jump without gasping for breath
- Having a healthy relationship with food
- Feeling self-confident and comfortable in your own skin
- Feeling vibrant and energetic on a daily basis
- Having the confidence to take on new challenges & learn new skills

There is so much more to health than what your body looks like!

What kind of training do we do?

Your personal training sessions will be tailored to your goals. We will look at what you currently do and what you want to achieve and we’ll devise a plan to help you get to where you want to be.

We focus mostly on strength training.

We use calisthenics (bodyweight training), free weights (if you have them available) and resistance bands to help you develop incredible strength and greater joint stability without ever having to step foot inside a gym

We also look at your mobility and we include exercises in your programme that will help you move more freely through greater ranges of motion.

What about your cardiovascular fitness?

There are many ways to improve your cardiovascular fitness. What’s the best way? The one that you enjoy doing most! From playing team sports, to running, swimming, cycling or simply just walking, we will help you find ways to get some regular cardio into your week.

If you want to include cardiovascular fitness in your PT sessions, we use a variety of methods depending on what you enjoy, including circuit training, HIIT (high intensity interval training) and fun, cardio-based boxing sessions.

What about Weight Loss?

The most common goal that my new clients tend to want to achieve is weight loss.

Whilst here at Awesome Bodies we do not focus our training on aesthetics or body transformations, you choosing to take steps to achieve weight loss when you are overweight is a positive thing; it will result in you having better overall health, lower your risk of serious disease and will leave you feeling fitter, more confident and able to go about your daily life with more ease.

Whether you need to lose a substantial amount of weight or you are simply looking to lose a couple of kilos to feel better in yourself, our approach is the same.

When it comes to weight loss, our goal is to help you develop lifestyle changes and build new habits that will stick with you for the long term and help you maintain a healthy weight for life. Quick fixes and harsh diets do not work. You might lose weight in the short term, but if your methods are not sustainable, you will regain that weight (and often more!) once you revert to your old habits. Sustainable weight loss takes time and you need to be patient. If all that motivates you is the number on the scale, you’ll eventually give up when you stop seeing significant changes.

What we want you to realise, is that there is so much more benefit to exercising than just weight loss. There will be improvements in your strength and stamina, you’ll feel happier and healthier, you’ll sleep better, you’ll learn new skills and you’ll hopefully find joy in the actual process of exercising! We hope you start to worry less about how your body looks, and start to realise that your overall health and wellbeing comes from so much more than having six-pack abs or a peachy bum!

Cari signed up to 6 weeks of training.
Here is her experience:

"As daunting as it was, I decided to embark on a six week fitness program with Dani. I had been attending her weekly bootcamps so we already had a form of trust. We all know how intimidating it can be to start a new fitness regime, especially when it comes to strength training. And when I saw her offering of a six week program with one to one sessions and lifestyle/nutrition advice, I decided to go for it.

My main goal was to get in shape and shed some of the pandemic weight gain and lethargy.  I am happy to say that midway through the process my goals changed from weight loss to strength gaining. I have found out that I can achieve things that I thought were only attainable for super fit people. And I gained confidence and energy in the process. Dani is a great PT and somehow she manages to explain how to do the exercises properly and gain maximum benefit. Also, she is the biggest motivator I’ve ever known! I highly recommend going through the process of getting fit with her - you won’t regret it.  At the end of my six week course not only did I manage to lose that stubborn excess weight, I could also do press ups, survive and even enjoy a whole hour of high intensity exercise, and I am now working towards achieving my first set of pull ups! Watch this space!"

What about Nutrition?

When it comes to weight loss, we cannot ignore nutrition. You can exercise all you want, but if you are still eating more calories than you burn, your weight is unlikely to shift. In terms of your nutrition, we won’t give you food plans or tell you exactly what to eat. Instead, we’ll help you understand the kinds of foods you should be eating in order to have a balanced diet that nourishes and fuels your body. We’ll help you make better choices and understand how to build satisfying meals that leave you feeling full and that provide you with energy to fuel your workouts. We’ll also help you understand how you can still have the foods the love in moderation, while hopefully inspiring you with new kinds of food choices that you start to enjoy!

Weight loss is not an easy thing for most people to achieve, largely because nutrition is so deeply interlinked with the emotional relationship we have with food. So many of us are harbouring secret food issues, including emotional eating, binge eating and a whole host of other eating disorders. It is far more common amongst people than you think, from the endless yo-yo dieters out there, to the many fitness professionals who might look like the epitome of health, but who often spend their lives massively restricting their food in order to look “shredded” while binge eating in secret behind closed doors.

In our opinion, healthy nutrition is not just about the food you eat but also about your mental approach to eating. Are you able to make mostly healthy choices that support your body and fitness goals whilst also maintaining a balanced approach, where you can eat the things you love without guilt or the idea that you’ve “fallen off the wagon” and need to start all over again?

That’s what we hope to help you achieve – a life of balance and fulfilment where you enjoy life’s many culinary pleasures whilst keeping your body vibrant and healthy!
